About: The KOR PROJECT

THE KOR PROJECT was created over the last year with the vision of bringing together emerging, underground artists and musicians and providing them with a platform that will showcase both music and art in a dynamic setting. Each KOR PROJECT event is partnered with a non profit foundation or charitable organization. (ie: Lance Armstrong Foundation, Leukemia Society of NY)

Having spent my first five years in New York working in the music and entertainment industry I began to notice a trend in the personalities, tastes and preferences amongst those individuals who seek out and enjoy discovering new music and art. I also saw that were not many venues or opportunities that allowed for such discoveries to occur simultaneously under one roof. Most people that like music also like art but are not presented with many convenient ways to see new artists who are not mainstream unless they are “in the know” and motivated to go out to galleries, exhibitions and museums.

THE KOR PROJECT is my newest venture to provide a solution to this creative explorative dilemma. I decided to pursue a passion that hit much closer to what I really love about music & art and that is discovery and helping artists emerge from the underground. I created THE KOR PROJECT about a year ago and with the help of many friends and other influential people within the music/art/entertainment industry have been able to put together the framework for a phenomenal working project.

The KOR PROJECT launch event is a private event and will encompass a total of three bands and 7-10 featured artists. I booked the Highline Ballroom which is set up perfectly for showcasing multiple mediums of music and art together.

The KOR PROJECT: MISSION STATEMENT

The KOR PROJECT was created with the premise of creating a unique social setting that blends the best parts of a live concert and the opening night of an art exhibition. Beginning operations in the summer of 2007 the KOR PROJECT has long term goals of capitalizing on the growing trend of putting the “art” in “party” by orchestrating a series of events centered around discovering new music and fine art on the same night at the same venue.

Over the last 5-10 years there have been a few extremely underground groups like Start SOMA, Tactility and Gen Art, who have successfully produced one-off events where the roster of visual artists or short films and fashion designers shares top billing with the DJs or other musical talent. The KOR PROJECT takes this event-based formula to a new level, providing a gallery setting with multiple art mediums backed by a live concert showcasing up-and-coming bands that are still a bit off of your radar. The creators of the KOR PROJECT have also decided to partner up with a rotating roster of non-profit foundations and other charitable organizations to promote their cause to a new demographic.

New York City is THE cultural mecca for aspiring artists to develop their skills and hone their craft. On any night of the week a curious individual can stumble upon countless musical and artistic expressions. The KOR PROJECT aims to capture the best of what is out there and present it in an eccentric atmosphere. Each KOR PROJECT event will transport you into an urban adventure like nothing you have experienced.

“Bringing art and music together provides a multifaceted atmosphere. It takes away from the pretension of typical galleries. You potentially have two different types of viewing audiences: the people who are there to just drink and see the band and the people who are there to buy the art.”

In time….THE KOR PROJECT hopes to become your comprehensive source for the newest music and the freshest art from the underground.
